Tour de France 2027: Llandrindod, Builth and the Côte d’Epynt. What a weekend we have ahead.
The Tour de France is coming just a few miles from Fforest Fields, with a sprint in Llandrindod Wells, racing through Builth and the Welsh stage’s first categorised climb on the Côte d’Epynt. Join us for cycling excitement, family fun and a big Welsh welcome over the weekend of 2–4 July 2027.
On Sunday 4 July 2027, the Tour de France will visit Wales for the very first time, bringing the world’s best cyclists through Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells before they tackle the Côte d’Epynt, the Welsh stage’s first categorised climb. We’re very excited to think of these familiar towns and hills becoming part of something watched and loved by so many people around the world, and we’re looking forward to helping give the riders and everyone coming to watch a warm welcome. Here at Fforest Fields, we’re planning a weekend around the occasion, with cycling, activities and time together for adults and children.

Epynt: these hills, a proper Tour de France climb
For anyone who knows Epynt, seeing Côte d’Epynt on the Tour de France route is a lovely thing. After coming through Llandrindod and Builth, the riders will face 3.7km of climbing at an average gradient of 7.9%, giving them a demanding introduction to the hills ahead. Those who have cycled around here will know how much the landscape can ask of your legs, and it will be fascinating to see how the professionals tackle it. With the effort of the climb, encouragement from the roadside and the open hills around them, this promises to be a particularly memorable part of the day.
Llandrindod Wells: sprint points up for grabs
The latest announcement, made on 22 October, confirmed that Llandrindod Wells will host the Welsh stage’s intermediate sprint, on the A483 entering town (just 7 miles from Fforest Fields). This is a point along the route where riders can compete for points towards the green jersey, accelerating to cross a marked line before continuing with the race. It gives Llandrindod an extra focus for the day, with the possibility of some closely contested racing as the riders approach. We love the thought of families gathering to watch, children recognising riders they’ve seen on television and people sharing the excitement of having an occasion like this so close to home.
Builth Wells: the Tour comes to our nearest town
The race will also pass through Builth Wells, and we’re looking forward to seeing a town we know so well welcome the colour and bustle of the Tour. Fforest Fields is around four miles from Builth, with Llandrindod nearby too, so there’s plenty happening within reach of a stay here. We hope you’ll give yourselves time over the weekend to get to know both towns, call into the shops and cafés and enjoy some of the places we’re lucky to have around us. After the excitement, you’ll have the campsite, lakes and countryside to return to, with time to put the kettle on and talk over what you’ve seen.

A Fforest Fields weekend with cycling at its heart
On Saturday 3 July, we’re planning a children’s bike event at Fforest Fields, giving younger riders a chance to join in and enjoy being part of the weekend. We’re working on ideas for bike challenges, games and activities that families can enjoy together, with plenty of encouragement for the children and things for the grown-ups to get involved in too. We’d love it to be one of those days when children make friends, gain a little confidence and keep asking for another go!
For Sunday 4 July, alongside the opportunity to watch the race nearby, we’re planning big-screen viewing at Fforest Fields so we can follow the riders as they continue towards Cardiff. More ideas are taking shape for the day, and we’re enjoying thinking about how to bring everyone together. We’ll share the programme as plans are confirmed, along with official viewing and travel information to help you decide where to watch and organise your day.
Make a weekend of it
Visit Wales has named 2027 the Year of Cycling, and we’re pleased to be playing our part in welcoming people here and encouraging more adventures on two wheels. We hope the Tour will bring new visitors to this part of Wales, inspire children to spend more time on their bikes and give returning guests another happy reason to come back.
If you can, arrive on Friday and give yourselves time to settle in before the Saturday activities, then stay Sunday night so you can enjoy the race day without having to pack up. There’ll be time around it all for a swim, a walk through the woods or an evening beside the fire, making a proper few days away of this very special occasion.
Bookings for the weekend of 2–4 July 2027 are already coming in fast, so if you’d like to be here, we’d encourage you to book soon. We’d love to have you with us as we welcome the Tour to our part of Wales.
