Wild Dips & Paddle Spots Near Fforest Fields

Wild Dips & Paddle Spots Near Fforest Fields

Discover these wonderful beauty spots near Fforest Fields where you can have a dip in pools and rivers.

 Free Fishing, Aberedw

Distance: 15 - 20 mins

A serene stretch of the fabulous River Edw.  The water is not deep in summer, but there are great rocks to clamber over and collect.  There is a deeper pool where you can get your shoulders under the water, and a little weir-like waterfall. There is also an area to picnic and bbq.

There are two routes to the spot, you can go along the main road via Aberedw (8 miles) or along a winding quintessentially Radnorshire valley beside the Edw (6 miles).  It's nice to go one way and come back the other :)

You can also cycle or walk over the top of Aberedw Hill to get to it.  Please use OS.

Farmers’ Welsh Lavender, Near Builth Wells

Time to travel: 20 mins ish

Unwind at Farmers’ Welsh Lavender, where the aromatic fields and lovely views offer a perfect post-swim break.  There is a little coffee shop there, 'the smallest deli in Wales' and some fab homemade lavender products to make your skin and hair feel wonderful.

The pool is quite small but set up for swims with a ladder in, the views are exceptional across the valley and down towards Builth.

You can get to Farmers' Lavender two ways, up through Builth then to Myesmynis or up along the Brecon Road from Builth and turn before you get to the ranges.

Small entry fee :)

You can go one way and come back the other, you can also take a small diversion along the way to head to Pant y Llyn which is worth a stop.  See further information below.

 Pant Y Llyn, Builth

(Off the beaten track paddle spot, paddle not swim spot)

Time to travel: 20 mins

While this is a paddle spot not a swim spot, it's worth adding here just while we're on topic of water. This fantastic, scenic place is a family favourite with a small moor top b-road that gets you almost right to the pool.  The walk over to it is only a few hundred meters, and the views are exceptional.  You can walk right across to the trig and then to over look the Wye if it takes your fancy.  The nature of the geology on the top leads to small pools, rocky crags and all sorts of interesting flora and fauna.

Get to it via Builth, or across the Erwood Bridge.  Go one way and come back the other for the full experience of the breathtaking views which reach down towards the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons and back across the valley to Aberedw Hill.

 River Wye Pools

This stretch of the River Wye is fabulous, furious waters in winter but littered with rock pools and dipping spots during the summer.  We love to get our feet in the water between Aberedw & Llyswen.  Here are some of the ones we like :)

Time to travel: varies, 15 - 20 mins

Erwood Gallery Walk and Pools

A short walk from the Erwood Gallery (lovely cakes, good coffee and a nice gallery to spot work from local artists and artisans), the path opens out to a beautiful area beside the Wye.  You can see the road on the other side (behind some trees), but some how the magic of this place and the walk to it makes it all melt away.

Llanstephan Bridge Pools

Park here, and walk along the riverside.  You'll spot various points along there to drop down to the river.  Along the track you'll go underneath the a road bridge, and from there you can walk up and round back to the car.  It's a lovely short walk on a beautiful stretch of the Wye.

Llangoed Pools

Shhh, one of our favourite hang out spots.  You'll need to find some parking in Boughrood and walk along the very quiet country lane until you reach a gate with a small walking track stretching out in front of you.  Keep walking along there, enjoying the views and ambience of the river until you see Llangoed Hall on your left.  Through a couple more gates, you'll spot some tracks that lead through the trees on the right towards the river.  Enjoy!

Rectory Pool

This hidden gem features a series of riffles and deep pools, perfect for a refreshing swim. Easily accessible from the nearby Wye Valley Walk, this spot remains quiet. The gently moving water and eddies allow for a pleasant upstream swim, while shelving rocks provide safe and convenient entry points

 The Wash Pool, Llanwrtyd Wells

Time to travel: 40 mins

A tranquil spot on the River Irfon, with crystal-clear waters ideal for a peaceful swim surrounded by lush greenery.

The Wash Pool is a haven tucked up a small b-road from Llanwrtyd. There is a magical atmosphere, where you can swim in the pool beneath a canopy of trees and dappled sunlight.  The nearby town of Llanwrtyd is world-renowned for its quirky activities and festivals - including the World Bog-Snorkelling Championships & Man vs. Horse.

After your swim you can carry on up the Irfon towards Llyn Brianne (no swimming), along the stunning Abergwesyn Road and Devil's Staircase.

 Teme, Leintwardine

Distance: 40 mins

A lovely, quiet spot in the summer at the joining of the River Teme and River Clun, this area is perfect for a swim or a paddle. The River Teme lazily winds its way towards the site through a lush green meadow, and its waters are usually warm, clear, and shallow.  The river is easily accessible from the common land opposite the pub, upstream of a stone bridge.  This is the confluence with The River Clun which adds to the charm of the spot.  The Lion Pub serves fantastic food, and there are a couple of other places to stop and eat nearby.
