Travel Suggestions
From the North: If you’re coming from the North, simply include “via Rhayader” on your map tool. When traveling from the North via Newtown, we recommend taking the Newtown bypass onto the A489 toward Llanidloes, then following the A470 to Llangurig, Rhayader, and Builth Wells. In Builth Wells, continue straight over the roundabout on the A483, then turn right after half a mile onto the A481. You’ll find Fforest Fields four miles down the road on the right. While it may seem longer on the map, this route is more straightforward, with less winding roads, ensuring a smoother and quicker journey.
From the South: If you’re traveling from the South, add “via Builth Wells” on your map tool. We recommend avoiding the B4567 at Erwood and instead heading to Builth Wells. Follow the signs for the A483 and then the A481. Fforest Fields is just four miles up that road on the right, bypassing the bumpy road between Erwood Bridge and the hill-start T-junction, which connects with the A481. This route provides a smoother and more comfortable drive.
Travelling from the East
For those journeying from the East, whether it’s from Birmingham, the Gloucester area, Herefordshire, or Shropshire, you’ll find that there are few straight roads on your way here. However, rest assured that the journey is relatively straightforward, even if it does feel like you’re venturing into dragon country! Despite the winding routes, all the roads you’ll encounter are suitable for towing.
Travelling from the West
If you’re coming from Pembrokeshire, you’re likely familiar with the lovely journey to and from our region. Many of you may recognise Builth and Llanelwedd as a convenient pit stop on long journeys or as the home of the renowned Royal Welsh Show. Your journey to Fforest Fields is a well-traveled path! There is no straight and easy road over the Cambrians (although they are all stunning!) but the routes south via Carmarthen and North via Aberystwyth and Rhayader offer smooth sailing!
