Golf

There are some spectacular rural golf courses in landlocked mid Wales.  There are high courses with beautiful views, traditional rounds with technical sections and rugged courses that reawaken the joy of being ‘away from it all’.  Golf in mid Wales is pretty special, here are some of the courses in the area:

Llandrindod Wells Golf Course

As a popular spa town in the Victorian era, the Llandrindod Wells Golf Course was first founded in 1890.  The course features ‘a number of old-fashioned design traits’, with enjoyable par threes, a number of blind holes and some short par fours.  The 18th has a deep ravine between tee and green, leading to an enjoyable finale on this great round.

Welshpool Golf Course

Welshpool is a day trip away from Fforest Fields, but if you are a keen golfer and are looking to experience this unusual course, ‘perched on the roof of the world’ then it is well worth the trip to Welshpool Golf Course.  Bernard Darwin, OBE, once said ‘The Fact is that it is almost as impossible to describe the course as to describe the view; it is so unexpected, so unlike anything else…It is a beautiful place and I realised how incomplete had been my golfing education until I had seen it.”

Machynlleth Golf Course

This uncrowded golf course is set in idyllic surroundings, it is a much loved nine hole ‘heathland’ golf course set just outside of the market town of Machynlleth.  Machynlleth Golf Course comes alive in spring and summer, with gorse and rhododendrons displaying beautiful colour and fresh mountain air for your lungs.  The course is challenging and enjoyable, providing a test for players of all levels.

Rhosgoch Golf Course

Set above the River Wye, tucked away in the hills Rhosgoch Golf Course offers a truly special round in the Radnorshire Hills.  The 5000 yard, par 68 course uses natural slopes and features to offer a challenging game you won’t forget.  Junior golfers and families are welcome and there is no dress code, creating a relaxed feeling that perfectly suits this beautiful corner of mid Wales.
