The Royal Welsh Show & Spring Festival
The Royal Welsh Show
The four day Royal Welsh Show in July is one of the highlights of the year in Mid Wales. It showcases the very best of rural life from its permanent home in Llanelwedd near Builth Wells.
Every year the Royal Welsh Show delights with livestock showing, horticultural produce, forestry demonstrations alongside a vast array of much loved and lesser known country pursuits, crafts and breathtaking displays in the main grandstand. It is a key farming, smallholding and cultural fixture in the Welsh calendar that attracts visitors from around the globe.
Fforest Fields is situated 4 miles from the showground, along the A481. There is a convenient car park with a fantastic shuttle bus service to get you into the show, which means that you can get from the campsite to showground in good time.
While we are busy during show week, but we do everything we can to ensure that Fforest Fields remains a welcoming retreat to come back to after a day at the Royal Welsh Show.
A pleasent 7 mile round trip on foot, up onto the hill behind the campsite, will give you a chance to see the Royal Welsh Show from above, looking down from ‘The Kings’, three ancient burial mounds that sit above the Wye Valley on the Aberedw Hill and overlook the showground. Or why not extend that walk over to the Seven Stars pub, where good food is served daily. A shorter amble will take you to the Hundred House pub, just a mile from the campsite.
Then we have the lakes for a dip and kayaking or you could break away and do some fishing. During show week the cafe will be open and running alongside it will be Nadine’s burger van selling a range of tasty food for those who don’t want to cook after a day at the show.
You can also take advantage of the early bird discount (a set rate we've had in place since 2014!) if you book before the 14th of February 2016.
The Spring Festival at the Royal Welsh Showground
If you are looking to add to your ‘to dos’ this year then why not also consider the brilliant and much loved Spring Festival, for smallholders, gardening enthusiasts and those interested in a sustainable way of living. The Spring Festival is hosted at the Royal Welsh Showground in May every year.
The Festival includes classes for livestock, many of them for rare breeds, workshops for sustainable living and to brush up on your gardening skills, folk dancing displays and a dog show. There is also a wonderful hall dedicated to flowers and plants, which is a treat for the senses. In the main ring there are many displays including falconry, sheep dog trials and exhilarating scurry driving. There are also a host of fantastic craft exhibits, with beautiful products for your home, garden and lifestyle. It is a firm family favourite and a great way to spend a weekend in beautiful Mid Wales.
