From the moment we thought of opening a campsite we knew we wanted to share this extraordinary area with people, to help others draw the same feelings of escape and wonder that we got on a daily basis. We also knew that we wanted out of farming, never did we think we would be looking back in 25 years, with our eldest William and his wife Natalie working alongside us, at what Fforest Fields has become.
The campsite has become our life’s work; what started out as a little side project, now has our full attention and we absolutely love it. Nothing gives us greater pleasure than seeing the transformation a few days away can do for an individual, couple or family.
“Go on, you’ve got 500 acres to play on…”
This is something our children always heard if they ever got under our feet at the farmhouse! We always wanted to make sure that the camping and caravan site is closely connected to its natural environment. It sits in the very middle of our hill farm and we encourage campers to get out, stretch their legs and explore the multitude of tracks that weave through woods, over streams and often lead out onto the open hill.
Right beside the main site, you’ll also found the ever-popular lakes. One for activities such as swimming, canoeing, paddling and honey pot making off the pier. The other a beautiful fishing lake, with a small bridge and pagoda (hand crafted by one of our Old Faithfuls). From the fishing lake you have wide views towards Radnor Forest and can feel a million miles away from the campsite, even though it is just behind a high hedge!
There are some fantastic sports and activities on offer in the local area. From river canoeing, to mountaineering, to horseriding, to some of the most beautiful and relatively traffic free roads for novice or eager cyclists. Or if you have a mountain bike why not take it up into the woods above the farm and explore the tracks. We have previously hosted rounds of the National Points Series XC at Fforest Fields and have also hosted Downhill events, so if you are feeling adventurous/brave you could even have a go at that!
Or take a drive in your car and explore the beautiful countryside and engineering marvels at the Elan Valley, a Victorian dam system. Beyond there are the wilds of the Cambrian mountains. We know many lovely drives, so when you are on site pop into the reception and we’ll happily let you know all about them!
We love it here, it is more than a job, it makes us glow with pride to know that we are able to provide you with the space, fresh air and a gateway to a truly unique and special pocket of Wales.
